Where is Wabakimi Park?

Wabakimi Provincial Park is a woodland park positioned near Lake Nipigon in the North of Superior region of Ontario, Canada. Wabikimi includes a vast, 2,000 km network of interconnected rivers and lakes.

One Of The Largest Boreal Woodlands In The World

Wabakimi Park covers an impressive region of 8,920 kilometer square, and turned out to be the second biggest park of Ontario.  In fact, Wabakimi is one of the largest boreal woodland preserves of the world, following it’s major extension in 1997. A large number of local residents and citizen groups  can be proud of their successful expansion, preservation and creation of this area.

Back-Country Campsites and Fly in Fishing

Wabakimi Provincial Park provides 500 back-country campsites scattered throughout the park. For those seeking a retreat into the wilderness or educational experience, there are many professional lodges,  outfitters, and fly in fishing outpost camps , who provide excellent service to canoeists and anglers who visit this amazing area.

There are several provincial waterway parks that are connected to Wabakimi like Albany River, Brightsand River, Ogoki River and Kopka River. The park also offers many recreational activities like fishing as it offers some of the most outstanding lake trout fishing in all of North America!

One can also enjoy wildlife viewing since about 300 wild caribou roam in the park, subtle but infrequently seen by river and lake shorelines or swimming across a river or lake.

Restricted Motorboat Use

You can also take pleasure from boating facilities as Motorboats are allowed in the stretched park area but only distant tourism processes are permitted to utilize them in the unique park area. Besides this, outfitters can provide you for a canoe trip in the wild, or fly you off to a resort, lodge or a fishing exploration.

How To Get To Wabakimi

You can get to Wabakimi Park by float plane, rail or by driving. The Canadian National Railway goes round the south end of the park and VIA Train offers traveler service 3 times a week.

Rushing River Provincial Park

Rushing River Provincial Park is located just at the distance of 20 minutes from the town. Kenora offers you everything that you need in your shopping like hardware, service stations, gift and antique shops, grocery and sporting goods retailers. There are large number of restaurants, hotels, cabin rentals or best bed and breakfast facilities that allow visitors to stay here for night or for longer time. For touring, there are lots of wall paintings on various edifices. There are 20 wall paintings made by Canadian artists.

Hiking Trails can also be found here such as Amik Trails and Vernon Nature Trails, contains 5 various winding trails through an unusual convergence of three vegetation zones. The area is surrounded with many public beaches like Garrow Park on Rabbit Lake, Coney Island Beach and Keewatin Beach on Lake of The Woods.
