You can use a mini foo jig and maggot combination with 1/32 or 1/64 oz jigs. You can drift a worm or drift a crayfish. Browns love crayfish. If you drift with a float make sure your bait is a foot to a foot and a half off of the bottom. You could use salmon eggs also drifting it on the bottom.
If ya’ be fishin’ a lake/pond ya’ might give a “Cocktail Marshmellow” (real tiny ones) a’ shot, when goin’ with worms/nightcrawlers or anything else that doesn’t float (reason for the mellow ~ it floats, keeps bait off the bottom annnd it be an additional “Treat”). Simply thread mellow up to eye of hook (cover it) and then put bait on bend/barb. Link will show some good riggins’ (minus the mellow) for what’ll be good (scroll through page for more set-ups). Hope this helps ya’ out however their be a LOT of different ways to rig up and I know there’ll be others with more suggestions ~ sooo, am leavin’ that up ta’ them

Slider/egg weight:
Note: The use of a slider/egg weight is a better choice than say split shot, that be because your line travels through it which in turn means they can’t feel the pressure of the weight/sinker.1st link will show ya’ how to rig up and the 2nd be the slider/egg weight itself…
Update: Have made mention of this before ~ I’ll tear a Nightcrawler in 1/2 to possibly prevent a Trout from hittin’ the trail end of it, besides ya’ save on them NC’s

Fish as usual is pretty much on the money. However, I prefer a variation on his sliding sinker. Rather than use a marshmallow, although these are good for hatchery fish, I prefer to inflate the partial night crawler or a whole garden/redworm. They actually sell what are called worm blowers or worm inflate-rs, but I prefer to use a diabetic syringe. The air bubble floats the worm off of the bottom and irritates the worm causing it to wriggle more and hence be more attractive to the fish. This method is deadly, especially if there are weeds or bottom cover on the bottom of the lake or pond. Good luck and enjoy the catching!
A word of caution, check and see if possession of a syringe is legal where you are at. If not, the store purchased worm inflate-rs or a parvo virus needle used for inoculating dogs is usually legal to possess and use.
What always works for me, if you are not a fan of lures, is useing power bait. Its realy simple just attach a sliding weight to your main line (#4) then attach a swivel. Tie on your leader line (#2). Add a treble hook size 14 or 18 and just mold the dough around the hook. Adding sents to your bait will only increase your chance of catching fish. Try useing diffrent colores of dough see what works in your area and what doesnt. I recomend yellow and chart, work well where i fish.

I always use the slip sinker method for fishing browns from shore. I have very good luck using cut bait. Cut out the back portion of a shinner or chub. Use a number 4 bait holder hook. Make sure the cut bait covers the point of the hook. Just leave it set with a tight line
i sometime use a floating jighead off of a barrell swivel with a egg sinker, the trout wont feel the weight but you will know when they hit it, also try injecting air into a crawler, it makes them float very nicely
Float fishing with maggots or worms usually works very well. You can ‘loose feed’ some to attract the fish.
If you are fish fishing, just try out different flies – different colours and patterns. Good luck!
