I am staying near Pismo Beach but have a rental car and willing to drive. Anyone know where I should go to fly fish for a great experience someplace close? I am open to hiring a guide. I have my own gear. thanks much!

l think l would look further north. california has been in a bit of a drought for the last few years. most streams in that area are likely to be dry creek beds.
sorry.

plenty of good saltwater fishing though. you can even use your fly tackle for some jumbo surf perch. use some steelhead size flies with red in them.

You are about 4 hours drive from some great trout and landlocked salmon fishing in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We had a good boost of rain/snowfall at the beginning of the month that has absolutely LIT UP the fishing in rivers like the San Joaquin, Merced , and Tuolumne of the central Sierra. The coastal regions didn’t get the same blessing so your best bet is to try the lakes to your north San Antonio or Nacimento ( 1 hr drive up 101 and take the Jolon Rd. exit) look for the signs. Or do what the guy before me said and go surf fishing, it can be a blast . If you want to seriously catch fish and want to drive a bit, then e-mail me, I can set you up with accommodations and the where to go what to do. I’m not a guide so I won’t charge nothin’. My girlfriend works at the local motel and can pull strings for a discount sometimes. But we have MAJOR bite happening now for Rainbows and German Brown trout in the 2 to 5 lb range. … G’Luck
