Wabakimi Park covers an impressive region of 8,920 kilometer square, and turned out to be the second biggest park of Ontario. In fact, Wabakimi is one of the largest boreal woodland preserves of the world, following it’s major extension in 1997. A large number of local residents and citizen groups can be proud of their successful expansion, preservation and creation of this area.
Back-Country Campsites and Fly in Fishing
Wabakimi Provincial Park provides 500 back-country campsites scattered throughout the park. For those seeking a retreat into the wilderness or educational experience, there are many professional lodges, outfitters, and fly in fishing outpost camps , who provide excellent service to canoeists and anglers who visit this amazing area.
There are several provincial waterway parks that are connected to Wabakimi like Albany River, Brightsand River, Ogoki River and Kopka River. The park also offers many recreational activities like fishing as it offers some of the most outstanding lake trout fishing in all of North America!
Abundant Wildlife
One can also enjoy wildlife viewing since about 300 wild caribou roam in the park, subtle but infrequently seen by river and lake shorelines or swimming across a river or lake.
Restricted Motorboat Use
You can also take pleasure from boating facilities as Motorboats are allowed in the stretched park area but only distant tourism processes are permitted to utilize them in the unique park area. Besides this, outfitters can provide you for a canoe trip in the wild, or fly you off to a resort, lodge or a fishing exploration.
How To Get To Wabakimi
You can get to Wabakimi Park by float plane, rail or by driving. The Canadian National Railway goes round the south end of the park and VIA Train offers traveler service 3 times a week.
